About the Office of Research Ethics

Fostering a research environment of honesty and integrity

The mission of the Office of Research Ethics (ORE) is to assist the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) in providing an ethical research environment that fosters honesty, integrity, and a sense of community. The ORE ensures that University research conducted on or off the ISU campus, including collaborative research with other institutions, is conducted in compliance with university, local, state, federal, and funding agency regulations.

ORE is responsible for ensuring that the rights and welfare of human subjects and the welfare of animals, the investigator, the environment, and the community are protected. ORE fulfills its responsibilities, in part, by providing administrative support and implementation for the research compliance review committees covering human subjects research, animal-related research, biohazards, and radioactive materials and devices.

ORE also supports ethical research practice at Iowa State University through the Conflicts of Interest in Research, Export Controls, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Research Integrity programs.
